A Homecoming in Style 2020

A Homecoming in Style: Turnkey 2BHK Interior Design for Madhuri Ji in Gurgaon

There are some projects that stay with you — not just because of the work involved, but because of the story, the client, and the connection formed along the way. One such project that holds a special place in our hearts at Doodle Design – The Home Studio is the 2BHK flat designed for Madhuri Ji, a returning NRI from the US who decided to make Gurgaon her new home.

It’s been a while since we completed this project, but as we were going through our past works, this particular home stood out. Today, we’re delighted to finally share it with our community — not just as a portfolio entry, but as a reflection of how thoughtful design can blend comfort, personality, and practicality, especially for clients seeking simplicity over show.

The Client: Madhuri Ji – A Global Indian with a Minimalist Heart

Madhuri Ji had recently returned to India after several years of living in the US. A strong, independent woman, she had purchased a 2BHK apartment in Gurgaon. She reached out to us with a very clear mindset — she wanted a home that was calm, elegant, youthful, and clutter-free.

“Mujhe heavy interiors nahi chahiyein… koi traditional ya old-age feel nahi chahiye. Bas simple aur clean ho ghar.”

This one line defined the soul of our design direction. Unlike some clients who seek grandeur, ornamentation, or trend-heavy looks, Madhuri Ji wanted comfort, lightness, and emotional ease in her surroundings.

Project Type: Turnkey Interior Design

Location: Gurgaon (Society name unfortunately escapes us now)
Flat Size: 2BHK
Scope: Complete interior design and execution – including civil work, carpentry, kitchen, wardrobe, furnishings, electrical, lighting, and styling.

Our Design Philosophy for This Project

When someone moves from one country to another — especially after years abroad — their design expectations are deeply influenced by global exposure. At the same time, they seek the warmth and familiarity of their roots. For Madhuri Ji, we had to create a balanced space that:

  • Felt international in sensibility but Indian in comfort

  • Was modern but not stark

  • Was minimal but not boring

  • Offered functionality without fuss

With these core thoughts, we divided the flat into zoned experiences, treating each room with its own flavor but ensuring visual continuity.

Room-Wise Design Walkthrough

1. Living & Dining Area – A Calm First Impression

The living room is often the first thing that greets you — and for Madhuri Ji, we wanted this space to feel welcoming, soft, and warm. We went with a neutral palette — beige, light greys, and soft wood tones. A compact, low-height sofa set with textured upholstery, paired with a sleek center table and custom curtains, brought subtle elegance.

We added indirect lighting, warm cove lights, and a wall-mounted TV unit with fluted panel detailing for a minimalist but textured background.

The dining area, located adjacent, had a compact 4-seater table with upholstered chairs and a light fixture above — keeping the space breezy and cozy. No bulky partitions. No excessive ornamentation. Just simplicity done right.

2. Guest Room – A Smart Multipurpose Space

Since family and friends would be visiting occasionally, the guest room was designed as a multifunctional space. During normal days, it served as a reading and meditation room, but could easily transform into a full guest bedroom.

We opted for a wall-mounted foldable bed (Murphy-style) that could be tucked away, and added a sleek wall-to-wall wardrobe with mirror paneling to make the room feel larger.

A small study desk, open bookshelves, and sheer curtains made the room feel personal, airy, and inviting — never heavy or overdone.

3. Master Bedroom – A Retreat for the Soul

This was her personal space, and we made sure it reflected her calm, composed personality. We designed a floating bed with hidden storage, paired with back-panel lighting in the headboard.

The color palette was inspired by coastal tones — muted blue, soft white, and ash wood textures. We custom-built the wardrobe in matte laminate with a concealed handle system and paired it with a full-height mirror for both function and visual expansion.

A soft rug, indoor plants, and carefully chosen bed linen completed the look.

4. Kitchen – Modern, Compact & Functional

The kitchen needed to be smart, efficient, and easy to maintain. We opted for a modular layout with parallel counters, finished in dual-tone laminates (matte grey & white).

We integrated:

  • Soft-close drawers

  • Overhead cabinets with profile lighting

  • Built-in hob and chimney

  • Corner pull-out unit for maximum utility

The backsplash was kept minimal in pastel tile tones, and the flooring was upgraded to vitrified tiles for a neat look.

5. Washrooms – Subtle Luxury in Compact Spaces

Bathrooms in urban apartments are often limited in space, but that doesn't mean they can’t feel luxurious. For Madhuri Ji, we transformed both bathrooms using:

  • Modern wall tiles in grey & ivory tones

  • Sleek vanities with under-counter storage

  • Wall-hung WC units

  • Backlit mirrors

  • Black matte fittings for a contemporary contrast

The lighting played a big role here, with focused task lights for the mirror and soft ambient lighting to elevate the mood.

Execution & Project Management

Being a turnkey project, we managed everything end-to-end. From initial discussions to 3D visualization, material selection, sourcing, site execution, quality checks, and final styling — every detail was handled by our team.

Our project manager, Jasmeet Kaur, kept the communication flow smooth and updated the client regularly — a key factor since Madhuri Ji was still transitioning back from the US and appreciated regular updates without having to visit the site daily.

We ensured zero design deviation, timely delivery, and a transparent billing process — something we are deeply committed to in every project.

Client Feedback

“Doodle Design made the whole experience feel so effortless. I felt heard, respected, and truly understood. The final result is exactly what I had imagined — maybe even better. Thank you for making my return home so special.”

Hearing these words from Madhuri Ji meant everything to us. This wasn’t just about building a flat — it was about creating a comfortable home for a new chapter in her life.

In Closing: What This Project Meant to Us

This home is a perfect example of how less is more when done right. Every space was designed with intent, empathy, and restraint — keeping the client’s needs above trends or showmanship.

If you're someone looking to design your home in a way that reflects your personality, your pace, and your peace, then just like Madhuri Ji, you’re in the right hands with Doodle Design.
